I’m a “tra-digital journalist.”
Former administrator of the Pulitzer Prizes Sig Gissler coined the term to describe a person with the skills of a traditional journalist, with a digital overlay. (I wish I came up with it first!)
I’m the social media and analytics editor at the News and Observer in Raleigh, North Carolina. Previously I was the executive producer of digital media at 41 Action News in Kansas City, Missouri. I believe digital media should reach audiences where they are and be readily avalible at their fingertips. My role in the newsroom is to execute strategic content plans for daily coverage and manage this content across all digital platforms.
Even though I’m “from” North Carolina, I have also lived and worked in Tennessee and Washington, D.C.
I am a graduate of American University’s School of Communication where I received a M.A. in broadcast journalism. I also attended William Peace University in North Carolina for my undergraduate studies.
Outside of journalism, I enjoy taking modern dance classes, pretending to be on Food Network’s “Chopped” and Instagraming and Yelping my way through Kansas City.
