Nobel Peace Prize winner Andre Gide said “man can’t discover new oceans, unless he is willing to lose sight of the shore.” I lost sight of the shore during my junior year at Peace College. I spent a semester abroad in Granada, Spain. This was not my first experience abroad. I spent a few weeks in the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico, but this was the longest I’ve been away from home.
When I returned, I wrote about my experiences in U The Magazine. This student magazine features stories from college students in Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill, North Carolina. My story “Finding Peace: Notes from Abroad” was featured on the cover of the Fall 2011 issue.
